Agency: A Sweet Handwritten Font for Branding with Personality

Starting the Project: A Blank Canvas and a New Font

I recently opened a fresh brand board for a new client—a cozy little café tucked into a quiet corner of town. The brief was simple: create a warm, approachable visual identity that feels personal and inviting. As I began sketching out the mood, I knew typography would play a big role. That’s when I reached for Agency, a sweet and friendly handwritten display font that had caught my eye during a font browsing session earlier in the week.

First Impressions: The Personality of Agency

Agency immediately stood out for its soft, playful energy. It’s a script font with a casual, handwritten feel—perfect for brands that want to feel personable and down-to-earth. The letterforms have a gentle bounce and a slightly irregular rhythm, which gives the font a handmade charm. It doesn’t try to be overly elegant or formal, and that’s exactly what makes it special.

I dropped it into a logo mockup for the café’s name, and right away, it felt like a match. The client wanted something that felt like a handwritten note from a friend, and Agency delivered that tone effortlessly.

Testing the Font Across Brand Touchpoints

Once I had the initial logo direction approved, I started exploring how Agency could work across other brand materials. Fonts are like voices—they need to be consistent, readable, and appropriate for every context. I tested it in a variety of applications to see how far it could stretch.

Packaging and Labels: Adding a Personal Touch

Next, I moved to packaging mockups—think coffee bags, custom stickers, and takeout cup wraps. I was curious to see how Agency would perform in smaller sizes and on textured materials. On the coffee bag, it looked charming as a flavor label. It worked best when used sparingly—on product tags or as a secondary accent rather than long paragraphs.

One thing I noticed is that while Agency is highly readable at a glance, it’s not ideal for extended body text. That’s perfectly fine—it was designed as a display font, and I treated it accordingly.

Font Pairing and Practical Design Tips

Typography is all about balance, and Agency works best when it’s not left to carry the whole load. I found that pairing it with a minimalist sans-serif created a great contrast—Agency handled the personality, and the sans-serif brought clarity and structure.

It’s also important to test the font in different weights and sizes. I recommend downloading a sample or trial version before committing—especially if you’re using it for commercial projects. Agency includes a variety of alternates and ligatures, which I used to customize the logo and avoid repetition in longer headlines.

Print Materials: Business Cards, Menus, and More

One thing I noticed was that the font’s charm really came through on physical materials. Whether it was a sticker on a mason jar or a printed tag on a bag of pastries, Agency added a sense of warmth and craftsmanship.

Final Thoughts: When to Use Agency in Branding

If you’re working on a brand identity that needs a bit of whimsy and warmth, Agency might be the perfect fit. It works especially well for small businesses, handmade shops, creative studios, and lifestyle brands that want to feel personal and approachable.

It’s not a workhorse font for body copy or data-heavy layouts—but that’s not its job. As a display font, it’s meant to make a statement, and it does that beautifully.

What to Watch For

Before using Agency in a full brand system, test it in different contexts:

Luckily, Agency comes with commercial licensing, multilingual support, and multiple file formats—making it a solid choice for professional use. Just be sure to pair it with a more neutral font to maintain balance and readability throughout the brand system.

Conclusion: A Font with Heart

In the end, the client loved the direction. The branding felt personal, cohesive, and true to the café’s vibe—and Agency played a big role in that success. Whether you're designing a logo, packaging, social media graphics, or editorial layouts, this handwritten font brings a level of warmth and charm that’s hard to replicate with more structured typefaces.

If you’re looking for a creative font that adds a human touch to your design work, give Agency a try. It might just become your new go-to for branding projects that need a little extra love.
